This year the annual Ash Parish Fun Day was held
on Saturday 5th July 2008 and once again took place at the Ash Centre
and on the adjacent recreation ground. The event was organised by
the Ash Parish Council.
After 2 years where the weather was not kind to
us, this year the sun did shine for most of the day. Although a
couple of gazebo's tried to join the flight path to Farnborough
Airfield.
Events got under way with the judging of the flower,
fruit, vegetable, flower arranging, baking and craft competitions.
The overall standard of exhibits being very of a very good standard.
It was pleasing to see that these competitions attracted more entries
than last year, with a number of first time entrants. For a list
of class winners click here. Class
Winners.
The Class winners, together with the second and
third placed entries all received prize certificates from Councillor
Nigel Manning towards the end of the afternoon.
The Chairman of Ash Parish Council, Councillor
Nigel Manning, officially opened the Fun Day after giving a short
speech welcoming everyone to the event.
Following the official opening, the arena displays
started with the welcome return to the Fun Day of the Sandhurst
& District Corps of Drums. The Corps were followed in the arena
by the children of Ash Grange Primary School performing their routine
twice.
We then managed to get Winnie the Pooh to leave
his Honey Pot and Tigger to stop bouncing around for the afternoon
so that they could get everyone, (yes everyone as one or two parents
were spotted outside the arena), dancing.
Winnie and Tigger were followed by The Briar School
of Dance and The Maypole Dancers. The arena displays were rounded
off by the K.A.T.S. Dog Agility Team. As in previous years the dogs
and of course their handlers in showing off their agility skills
proved especially popular with all members of the public.
The Frimley Park Hospital Team once again performed
a magnificent job of compering the main arena events and Ash Parish
Council would like to thank them accordingly.
Meanwhile outside the main arena there were over
30 different stalls representing various charities and local groups
from in and around the village. These stalls included the Phyllis
Tuckwell Hospice, Ash U3A, Ash Stamp Club, Ash Grange Childrens
Centre and the Ash Garden Club to name but a few.
Rounding off the entertainment other attractions
included a children's mini fun fair, a burger bar, ice cream van,
a candy floss stall and of course the beer tent supplied by the
Dover Arms public House.
Councillor Nigel Manning officially closed the
event at around 5 o'clock, after thanking all participants for taking
part and the Parish Council Staff led by Clerk of the Council, Carole
Olive for organising the event.
Finally with the 2008 Fun Day now over, remember
to keep returning to the Ash Parish Council Web Site for details
