| The
2010 Ash Parish Fun Day was held on Saturday 14th August. The event
once again being organised by the staff of Ash Parish Council and
held at the Ash Centre and adjacent Recreation Ground in Ash Hill
Road, ash.
The weather was not as kind to us this year as
it was last year, it was relatively dry until about a quarter past
four when unfortunatley the heavens decided to open with a heavy
downpour together with thunder and lightening.
The days events got under way with the judging
of the flower, vegetable, flower arranging, baking and craft competitions.
The number of entries were up this year compared to last year. For
a list of class winners click here. Class
Winners.
The Class winners, together with the second and
third placed entries will receive their certificates from the Mayor
of Guildford, Councillor Marsha Moseley during the Ash in Bloom
2010 awards evening in September.
The Fun Day was officially opened by the Mayor
of Guildford, Councillor Marsha Moseley and Chairman of Ash Parish
Council, Councillor Nigel Manning.
Following the official opening, the arena displays
started a flying display by the Henfold Birds of Prey. The birds
of prey making a welcome return to Ash following the very successful
display last year.
A new act for Fun Day was a dance display by the
Pheonix Dance Crew, who at the last minute undertook two dance displays,
due to the last minute cancellation by another act.
This years finale, albeit cutailed by the downpour,
was a second flying display by Henfold Birds of Prey, Eagle Owl,
Honey and a Peregrine Falcon.
The Birds were abley assisted by Barry and Nicola
Ryder from the Birds of Prey Centre. Ash Parish Council would like
to sincerely thank the Centre who stepped in providing both a static
and the very dramatic flying displays. We would also like to thank
all the children who braved Honey's talons during the display.
Once again The Frimley Park Hospital Outside Broadcast
Unit, led by Terry Joy, performed a magnificent job of compering
the main arena events and also making an appearance in the arena
with a dance and games se ession and Ash Parish Council would like
to thank them accordingly.
Whilst the arena events were underway there were
well over 30 different stalls, stands and displays representing
various charities and local groups and organisations from in and
around the village. These stalls included the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice,
Ash U3A, Ash Grange Childrens Centre and the Ash Garden Club to
name but a few.
Rounding off the entertainment other attractions
included a children's mini fun fair, a burger bar, ice cream van,
and of course the beer tent supplied by The Lion Brewery.
Councillor Nigel Manning officially closed the
event by thanking all participants for taking part and the Parish
Council Staff led by Clerk of the Council, Carole Olive for organising
the event.
Finally with the 2010 Fun Day now over the council
staff can take a small break before beginning preperations for Ash
Fun Day 2011. Please remember to keep returning to the Ash Parish
Council Web Site for details of the 2011 event.
