| This
years Ash Parish Fun Day was held on Saturday 16th July. The event
again being organised by the staff of Ash Parish Council and held
at the Ash Centre and the adjacent Recreation Ground in Ash Hill
Road, Ash.
The weather this year could not have been much
worse during the morning set up, with very heavy rain at times.
The rain did slowly clear from the west and following the official
opening by Councillor Nigel Manning the afternoon was basically
dry, although cloudy.
The days events got under way with the judging
of the flower, vegetable, flower arranging, baking and craft, including
a photographic class, competitions. The number of entries were up
this year compared to last year. For a list of class winners click

The show class winners, together with the second
and third placed entries will receive their winning certificates
during the Ash in Bloom 2011 awards evening in September.
The Fun Day was officially opened by Chairman of
Ash Parish Council, Councillor Nigel Manning.
Following the official opening, the arena displays
started with another fantastic flying display by the Henfold
Birds of Prey. The display allowed a number of children
to participate by allowing the falcon to land on their specially
gloved hand. The Birds of Prey also performed a second flying display
later in the afternoon. Ash parish Council would like to thank Barry
and Nicola Ryder for once again participating in the Fun Day.
This was followed by a display given by the
Tokon Shotokan Karate Academy who went through a number of different
routines including self defence demonstrations.
The Pheonix Dance Crew, who once again at the last
minute undertook two dance displays, due to the cancellation ofanother
act.
The Frimley Park Hospital Outside Broadcast Unit,
performed a magnificent job of compering the main arena events and
joining the whole afternoon by providing a running commentary and
music and Ash Parish Council would like to thank them accordingly.
Whilst the arena events were underway there were
many different different stalls, stands and displays representing
various charities and local groups and organisations from in and
around the village. These stalls included the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice,
Ash U3A, and the Ash Garden Club to name but a few.
Also for a new innovation for 2011 was a small
classic car display for which Ash Parish Council would like to thank
all participants, for bringing their cars, especailly with the weather
being so inclement.
Rounding off the entertainment other attractions
included a burger bar and of course the beer tent supplied by The
Hogs Back Brewery.
Councillor Nigel Manning officially closed the
event by thanking all participants for taking part and the Parish
Council Staff led by Clerk of the Council, Carole Olive for organising
the event.
Finally with the 2011 Fun Day now over the council
staff can take a small break before beginning preperations for Christmas
Fantasia 2011 and Ash Fun Day 2012. Please remember to keep returning
to the Ash Parish Council Web Site for details of all of the Parish
