Important Information
Coffins/Caskets
Ash Parish Council Cemetery Charges state that the maximum coffin/casket size per plot is 710mm (28 inches) wide, x 1980mm (78 inches) long, and special regulations and charges relate to the use of coffins/caskets in excess of these sizes.
Any coffin/casket in excess of the stated sizes will require the purchase of two or more grave spaces depending on the maximum dimensions, and the Parish Office should be consulted in these circumstances, before any burial is arranged.
In very few cases we may be able to accommodate coffins/caskets up to 760mm (30 inches) wide x 2030mm (80 inches) long, which will incur a surcharge of £100 per 25mm (1 inch) over the regulation size. Such plots are few and far between and again the Parish Office MUST be consulted prior to any burial being arranged.
Changes to coffin sizes after the first written confirmation has been received and which may also require the purchase of additional grave spaces will incur an administration charge of £50.00.
These rules apply to new purchases and to previously purchased plots.
Burials
No burial in Ash Cemetery will be confirmed by the Parish Office until coffin/casket sizes are advised by the funeral director in writing, fax or email.
Please continue to provisionally book by telephone with the Parish Office, so that dates, times etc can be pencilled in. Faxed or emailed confirmation will be issued to the funeral director from the Parish Office as soon as written details of coffin sizes are received.
Any changes to coffin sizes after the first written confirmation is received will incur an administration charge of £50.00 and may require the purchase of additional grave spaces.
Children’s Funeral Fund for England
Since 23rd July 2019 there is a new process for applying fees and charges for the burial of children under the age of 18 or stillborn after the 24th week of pregnancy. The Fund was established under the Social Fund (Children’s Funeral Fund for England) Regulations 2019.
Burials are free at the point of need with reimbursement claimed by the burial authority (i.e. Ash Parish Council). There are no nationality or residency requirements for eligibility. The Fund covers all religious faiths but not items relating exclusively to the requirements of that faith.
The Fund covers the reasonable costs of;
- The fees for obtaining a burial plot (either a grave or ashes plot);
- The fees for the exclusive right of burial;
- The fees for carrying out the burial;
- The fees for permission to erect a memorial (but NOT the price of the memorial).
All paperwork is completed as normal in the name of the family even though the family do not pay the costs so foe example the deed would still be in their name. where there is no body for burial, funding is available for fees for permission to erect a memorial.
All fees will be doubled for ´Out of Parish´ Interments, Exclusive Right Purchases, Memorial Items and Inscriptions.
The Parish Council reserves the right to depart from this list of charges in unusual circumstances.
