NOTICE OF CO-OPTION OF PARISH COUNCILLOR

Ash Parish Council is looking to Co-opt a Parish Councillor to fill a casual vacancy in the Rowan Field Ward of Ash, at a Full Council Meeting to be held Monday 14th September 2020.

Ash Parish Council does not pay any allowance for undertaking this role. The next scheduled formal Parish Council elections are due to take place in May 2023.

Expressions of interest are being sought from anyone in the Parish of Ash who is eligible* to stand as a Parish Councillor. All potential candidates should put their request for consideration in writing providing a Curriculum Vitae (CV) of no more than 500 words, with the following information:

  1. Full address. If less than 3 years your previous address;
  2. Length of time living in the Parish of Ash;
  3. Reason for wishing to be a Parish Councillor;
  4. Evidence of previous Community/Council work;
  5. Other skills you can bring to the Council and how these would be useful.

Applications should be emailed to the Acting Parish Clerk dennis.wheeler@ashpcsurrey.gov.uk by Noon 28 August 2020. All applications will be reviewed and sifted for suitability by the Councils Human Resources Sub-Committee using the above criteria.

*Eligible means – A person co-opted to fill a casual vacancy on a Parish Council must fulfil the same criteria as a person being formally nominated for a candidate at an election. The person must either be on the 2019 Register of Electors for Ash Parish Council and/or during the previous 12 months prior to appointment by co-option, either have occupied as owner or tenant any land or premises in the parish, or had their principal or only place of work in the parish, or have resided either in the parish or within 3 miles of the parish boundary.

The person should also not be disqualified for election under Section 80 of the Local Government Act 1972. Broadly, this relates to holding a paid office under the Town Council, bankruptcy, having been sentenced to a term of imprisonment of not less than 3 months without the option of a fine during the 5 years preceding the co-option, or being disqualified under any enactment relating to corrupt or illegal practices.
