Electricity upgrades in Ash

Electricity upgrades in Ash

We’re Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), and we maintain and upgrade the electricity network in your area. I’m writing to let you know about planned service improvements in Ash.

What we’re doing in Ash

We’re upgrading electricity connections for homes in selected streets and neighbourhoods, including properties where homes share a power cable with a neighbouring property (sometimes called a looped supply).

While this works today, it can limit available power as more people choose to adopt electric vehicles (EVs), heat pumps and other forms of low-carbon technology.

To support future energy needs, we’re upgrading these connections so each home has its own electricity supply. This will improve reliability and increase capacity.

The upgrade is funded through general electricity network investment, so there is no cost to customers.

What residents can expect

  • In the next few weeks, customers will receive a letter explaining the upgrade.
  • One of our delivery partners, Durkin and Sons, Aureos or Network Plus, will contact residents to arrange a suitable time for a survey of their property.
  • If work is needed, this may involve excavation and/or a short planned power interruption.
  • We’ll work to keep disruption to a minimum and keep customers informed.
  • We expect most work to take place over the summer, with timings agreed directly with residents.

Why this work is needed

These upgrades are part of wider investment to help the local electricity network meet growing demand.

This includes supporting customers to transition to electric vehicle chargers, heat pumps and solar panels.

We want customers to understand what’s happening, why the work is needed, and how it will benefit them.

Where the work is taking place

This programme will focus on selected properties within Ashin the following postcode areas:

  • GU12 6BE
  • GU12 6EX
  • GU12 6EY
  • GU12 6EZ
  • GU12 6HA
  • GU12 6JN
  • GU12 6JW
  • GU12 6LU
  • GU12 6LX

Please note: Not every property in these postcode areas will require these improvement works. Whether a home is included depends on how it is connected to the local electricity network and whether it has a looped supply. We are writing directly to the homes where our contract partners may need to get in touch about a survey and will be able to explain more to customers.

Further Information

I’ve attached copies of the customer letter and leaflet that will be shared with residents.

These explain what the upgrade involves, what to expect, and how to get in touch.

Working with stakeholders

We recognise the important role councillors, local council officers and community groups play in supporting communities. If you have any questions or would like a virtual briefing, we’d be happy to arrange this.

Furthermore, we’re keen to work with any community liaison groups to help build understanding of the project and reassure communities. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to forward these to us.

Thank you for your support as we upgrade the local electricity network.
