LGR Online Engagement Sessions for residents and Parish Councils

LGR Online Engagement Sessions for residents and Parish Councils

We’re inviting Parish Councils and local residents to join us at special online engagement events to find out about Local Government Reorganisation. Below is further information for your residents and your Parish Council.

For residents:

We’re inviting residents to join us at an Online Engagement Session this Thursday (3 July) to find out about Local Government Reorganisation. Please encourage residents in your area to register for the event, which will take place from 7pm to 8pm on Microsoft Teams. We’re promoting the session on our social media channels, which you can share to help reach local people.

The Government has launched a public consultation on the proposals to replace current councils with up to three bigger councils in the county. At the online session, hosted by the Leaders of Guildford and Waverley Borough Councils, Cllr Julia McShane and Cllr Paul Follows, we will:

  • explain what Local Government Reorganisation is
  • outline the options being considered, and
  • show residents how to get involved.

There will also be an opportunity for local people to ask questions about what the changes could mean for them, their family, and our community.

This online session is the first in a series of opportunities our community will have to engage with us – we’ll update you soon on other events this summer.

The Government consultation is open until Tuesday 5 August.

Residents can find everything they need to respond to the consultation on our website. There’s a link to the Surrey LGR Hub, which outlines information on Local Government Reorganisation and the two proposals. Using the Government’s consultation questions as a guide, we also tell residents why we support the three unitary option, which may help them to submit their own response.

For your Parish Council:

Join us for a special Local Government Reorganisation webinar for Parish Councils on Wednesday 16 July, 3pm to 4pm via Microsoft Teams.

We’ll explain what Local Government Reorganisation is, outline the different options being considered, and show you how to get involved. You’ll also have the chance to ask questions about what these changes could mean for you and your wider organisation.

Right now, the Government is running a consultation on the future of local government in Surrey. The consultation is open until Tuesday 5 August. Two options are being considered – reorganising Surrey into either three or two unitary authorities.

This is the only opportunity Parish Councils, residents, community groups, businesses and stakeholders will get to share their views with the Government. We’ll walk you through how to do just that.
