Join the Fun This Weekend as Guildford Celebrates Heritage Open Days!
Guildford and it’s surrounding villages are gearing up for a weekend of celebration as part of the national Heritage Open Days festival from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 September. As England’s largest community festival celebrating history and culture, this event invites you to discover hidden treasures right on your doorstep. Fully funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), the festival offers everyone the chance to explore, learn, and enjoy our beautiful borough—all for free.
Lead Councillor for Commercial Services, Cllr Catherine Houston, said:
“This weekend promises something for everyone.
“Come and enjoy a vintage bus ride around Guildford, or listen to live jazz music in the Guildhall and Abbots Hospital courtyard. Visit the incredible Watts Chapel for engaging ‘chapel chats,’ or listen and learn on the move with Horsley Heritage Walks.
“While you’re in town, don’t forget to stop by the Tourist Information Centre in the charming Guildford House to pick up a ‘Hidden Treasures’ leaflet or a Little People Sticker Trail booklet. Guildford Castle is hosting a ‘Design and Colour Your Own Shield’ activity, and the museum is joining in with a ‘Make and Play’ paper race car and toy vehicle activity. There’s truly something for everyone to enjoy this weekend!
“I am very grateful to the many enthusiastic volunteers who make Heritage Open Days possible each year. Without their dedication, this wonderful weekend simply couldn’t happen.”
