Remembrance Parade and Service 2016

This years Remembrance Day Parade and Service took place on Sunday, 13 November.

The parade from the Ash Centre to the Ash War Memorial was led by lone piper, Euan McDermott. The Union Flag was carried by representatives from the 1st Ash Vale Scouts.

The Parade was led by Chairman of Ash Parish Council, Councillor Nigel Manning, who was accompanied by the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, Member of Parliament for Surrey Heath, The Clerk of the Council, Carole Olive and other members of Ash Parish Council.

They were joined in the parade, by a number of service personnel, members of the Royal British Legion, other uniformed organisations, and members of the University of the 3rd Age (U3A).

The Service of Remembrance was conducted by Reverend Keith Bristow and other members of the local clergy.

Councillor Nigel Manning led the wreath laying ceremony. Followed by the representatives from the local uniformed organisations and members of U3A. During the Service Shannon Cronin, Hollie Evans and Sam Hymas, students from Ash Manor School, read out the names of the fallen, listed on the Memorial, who died between the November 1915 and November 1916.

The North East Hampshire Area School Band once again provided the accompanying music, with buglers sounding the evocative Last Post and Reveille. Tim Edwards once again marshalled the Parade.

Following the service, the parade returned to the Ash Centre where the salute was taken by Councillor Nigel Manning as the various contingents marched past.

Before final dispersal, Councillor Manning thanked all the individuals, groups and organizations that had contributed towards and attended the event.

Tea and coffee were then served in the Ash Centre by members of Churches Together.
