The Basingstoke Canal Society – Volunteer Roles

The Basingstoke Canal Society – Volunteer Roles

We’re looking for some new volunteers, could either of the below roles be an opportunity for you to get involved?

Corporate Volunteer Days – Organisation & Administration

The Society is building strong links with local businesses and involving their teams in Corporate Volunteer Days which is a win-win, with the businesses having team days out in the fresh air and the Canal benefiting from additional help with maintenance tasks.

We have various volunteers who run the corporate volunteering days out on the canal, but importantly, supporting this we are looking for a new volunteer to do the behind-the-scenes organisation of the day.  This would include; receiving enquiries, liaising with the Canal Ranger and following through with a risk analysis and any additional paperwork. This is all set up as streamlined process, while seasonal, there is on average there is one inquiry per week.

Our current volunteer is now moving onto a new charity opportunity and we need therefore someone to take over this role, which is interesting and a great opportunity to get involved with the Society.

To find out more please email to ken.sankey@basingstoke-canal.org.uk to have a chat about the role

Volunteer speaker

In helping to raise awareness of the Canal and get the community involved with the Basingstoke Canal, we have a team of people who deliver talks to local clubs, groups and other charities.

If you’re a great public speaker, then this could be the role for you. This is an interesting and very satisfying role for someone who likes public speaking and has a passion for the Canal. In turn there is no commitment to the number of talks, as you will be part of a team

Any applicant needs to have some knowledge of the Canal albeit to support the talks we have several scripts and presentations prepared. Over time, presenters adapt and fine tune their presentations as they learn more and to suit their style whilst still delivering talks that adhere to the Society’s style and message.

To find out more please drop an email to ken.sankey@basingstoke-canal.org.uk  and we can discuss the role in more detail.

If neither of these roles are for you, but you are interested in volunteering, please do keep an eye on our social media and our regularly updated volunteering website page.
